Former Millwall, Barnet, Crawley and Gillingham man Barry Cogan among six told to find new clubs by Dover Athletic

Long-serving Barry Cogan is among six Dover Athletic players who have been told they have no future with the club.

The 30-year-old midfielder - a former FA Cup Finalist with Millwall - has been told he is free to find a new club more than four-and-a-half years after arriving at Crabble following his release by Crawley Town.

The Republic of Ireland-born star, who has also been on the books of Barnet, Gillingham and Grays following his switch to England at the age of 15, joined the Whites in time to play a vital role in their historic run to the FA Cup Third Round, playing against Aldershot and Huddersfield.

The free-scoring midfielder was voted Players Player of the Year in 2012 and earned his place in club folklore with 15 goals as they earned Promotion to the Conference Premier in 2013/14, including a vital penalty on the final day which ensured Whites’ place in the play-offs, which they eventually won, however fell out of favour last season, spending time on loan at Margate, having signed a one-year deal in July 2014.

The other players who have been told they are free to leave are Italian winger Christian Nanetti, Adam Mekki, ex-Bromley man Jake Reid, one-time Arsenal youngster Joe O’Cearuill, who only arrived in March and Nigerian centre midfielder Solomon Taiwo who joined from Luton Town in January.

Goalkeeper Mitch Walker last week signed a new deal to stay at Crabble until the end of the 2015/16 season – making him the 10th player to be contracted for next season after Andrew Rafferty, Richard Orlu, Sean Raggett, Tyrone Sterling, Tom Wynter, Jamie Grimes, Ricky Modeste, Tom Murphy and Stefan Payne put pen to paper.

Connor Essam, Liam Bellamy, Nick Deverdics and James Poole have also been offered new terms by boss Chris Kinnear, though Sean Francis rejected a new deal and signed for Bromley this week.
