FORMER Wales goalkeeper Neville Southall may play a part in Dover Athletic's future, it has emerged.

There has been speculation that Southall may be in line to fill the vacant post of head coach at the club where he was dismissed more than two years ago.

He said: "I won't be applying for it. But if it was offered to me, if they wanted some help short-term, I'd have to think about it."

He stressed: "I'm not going to apply for a job where I was sacked once before."

Southall's first game in charge at Dover was at Margate on Boxing Day in December 2001. He was sacked after they lost to Boston on March 9 2002. He was in charge for 11 games, nine of which Dover lost.

Richard Langley was relieved of his duties as head coach for the trip to Kingstonian on Monday night. That game finished 0-0.

Langley is having discussions with the Whites board about his future and while these talks take place he will not be in charge of first-team affairs.

The club has appointed reserve coach Gary Whittle as caretaker-manager and he was in charge on Monday night.
