Ira Jackson refuses to be overawed by playing in the National League at 19-years-old.
The young Dover winger is making quite a name for himself and hopes to be involved on Saturday when Whites host the biggest club in the division, Tranmere Rovers.
Jackson played in the Ryman League for Whitstable and Worthing last season before impressing with Dover’s academy and earning a first-team contract.
He’s come a long way in a short space of time – a fact highlighted by the prospect of taking on Rovers.
Whites are outside the play-offs on goal difference and know a win would take them above Tranmere and into the top five.
Jackson said: “You don’t usually get such a dramatic jump from Ryman South to the Conference but I’m happy I managed to get my chance. I’ve made a few appearances and I’m looking to get a lot more in before the end of the season.
“Tranmere are a good side with a great history but you face big clubs all the time in the Conference. We are in this league for a reason and we’re showing that. It’s full of good players and if you’re in there, there’s no time to be a fan or admire other players and to give too much respect.
“It’s up to the manager whether I’m involved on Saturday but I feel ready, fit and able to go out there and do a job."
Jackson is learning all the time from manager Chris Kinnear. The teenager has been made to feel part of the squad and can see why Kinnear has enjoyed so much success.
Jackson said: “The gaffer has great experience and knows what he’s doing. He has such attention to detail and knows what works. He’s not the sort of manager who, as soon as a problem pops up, decides to change 12 players."
