THE fact that Dover Athletic have more or less arranged their pre-season fixtures indicates that a testimonial game for goalkeeper Paul Hyde is unlikely to take place.
Whites club secretary Frank Clarke has lined up a busy schedule of six friendles between July 22 and August 12.
With the club opening their Ryman League Division 1 campaign on August 19 it is unclear where a testimonial would fit in.
The long-serving keeper was released at the end of his testimonial season, but only one event, a golf day, took place and Hyde’s wish to have a farewell match against his former club, Wycombe Wanderers, at Crabble now seems a forlorn hope.
Former club director Steve Cattermole, who had offered to help arrange a testimonial match, said: "I have been in touch with Jim Parmenter but, unfortunately, there seem to be a number of reasons why the game is unlikely to take place.
"One of them is trying to find a suitable date, but I think it’s also true to say that the situation is also being influenced by a little bit of 'history' involving Paul and some of the club’s other senior players.
"It’s a shame because, whatever has gone on in the dressing room, Hydey has been a good servant of the club and deserved a decent send off."
