Andy Hessenthaler says Dover’s mental approach must be right when they visit Concord Rangers in the FA Cup this weekend.
Only 11 league places separate the teams ahead of the fourth qualifying round tie in Essex with Whites struggling in the National League and Concord chasing promotion in the division below.
The winners will bank £25,000 and join the likes of Sunderland, Portsmouth and Gillingham in the first round draw.
“It’s a tough one,” said Hessenthaler. “They’re a good side. They’ve got League experience in their team and the onus is all on us because we’re in a higher division.
“They’ve got home advantage so we’ve got to be mentally right. That’s going to be the key for me.
“We can more than match their physicality but it’s about the mental side.
“You’ve got to go to these places and get results. They’re going to find an extra bit.
“They’re playing Dover in the FA Cup and it’s an opportunity to get into the next round so everything goes against us.
“We’re going to be the favourites so the pressure’s on and we’ve got to deal with that.”
Standing in the home dugout on Saturday will be former Dover midfielder Sammy Moore.
Hessenthaler brought Moore to Crabble in 2008 during his first spell as Whites boss and the pair worked together for two years.
Hessenthaler said: “Sammy’s a character and he still can play now. He made a big call to stop playing. I know he’s still registered but he’s only 31 years old so that was a big call.
“He’s a pest so he’ll get things done and get his ideas across. He’ll pester people for players and drive you mad.
“He’s enthusiastic, he knows the game and he was an excellent footballer. I was surprised he went into management but he’s embracing it at the moment.”
Moussa Diarra (hamstring) could return on Saturday while Kevin Lokko and Josh Passley should both be fit despite hip problems.
However, Anthony Jeffrey is suspended following his red card at Harrogate on Saturday while Chesterfield loanee Brad Barry faces several weeks out with a groin injury.
