DOVER manager Richard Langley has been frustrated in his attempt to bring in a striker on loan for the rest of the season.
But he has bolstered his squad by recalling Simon Glover from Ashford Town for the remainder of the campaign.
The Whites boss wanted Jones Awuah back on loan from Gillingham, but learned on Monday (March 29) that the player was injured as well as being suspended until Easter Saturday.
Langley has been left with just two strikers, Craig Wilkins and Matt Carruthers, although Carruthers has rarely been at his best as an out-and-out striker.
Awuah has already spent a month on loan at the Hoverspeed Stadium earlier this year, scoring one goal.
Langley said: “I made 25-30 phone calls on Monday alone, trying to get a new striker, and Mark [Patterson] has been trying too, but there are no players about.
“Glover gives us another option and will be a bit more experienced than some of our younger players.
“He has done well at Ashford and should be on a high, and hopefully has a point to prove.”
Whites’ fight to make the top 13 continues on Saturday when they face Welling at Park View Road.
They desperately need to prolong their good run against the Wings as they seek to reach the 56-57 point mark which should be enough to get them into Conference 2 (South).
Dover beat Welling 3-1 at Crabble in September with one of their best displays this season. They then won 1-0 at Welling in the FA Trophy in November.
The game is sure to be closely contested as the Wings have strengthened their ranks with a number of ex-Dover players since then. Tommy Tyne, Kenny Dyer and Jimmy Strouts should all be in the Wings squad.
Andy Arnott is available again for Dover after suspension and Billy Bone came through 90 minutes against Hednesford on Tuesday without any problems. Paul Hyde’s injury has proved better than feared and he is hoping to be fit in time for the Easter games.
Darren Davies is meanwhile likely to be missing for another two weeks at least, while Patterson’s leg injury has still not healed and it is questionable whether he will play again this season.
