A DOVER Athletic FC supporter has been banned for life from the club’s Crabble ground for shouting abusive language at an away match.

The incident happened in a game against Fleet Town. The man was heard shouting abuse at a Dover official.

This carried on in the Fleet club bar in front of players, supporters and management from both teams.

When Dover Athletic chairman Jim Parmenter tried to intervene he was hit with a volley of more swearing.

Mr Parmenter said that the club had subsequently taken the decision to ban the supporter, whom he declined to name, for life.

The club can only ban fans from home matches so the man will still be able to attend away games. Mr Parmenter said: "I can handle being called every name under the sun and the ban is not about that.

"Foul and abusive language was used in front of the 1,000 people at the match. We are a family-orientated club so we had to take a hard line.

"To get to a permanent ban is a very sad stage, but in football you will always get incidents like this from time to time. The man has been dealt with under internal club rules and guidance."
