Chris Kinnear says there’s still a long way to go in the National League play-off race.
Dover have picked up just one point from their last three games and look to get their form back on track at home against Torquay on Saturday.
Kinnear’s side are eighth, one place outside National League play-offs, going into their last five matches.
He said: “There’s a long way to go yet and we must not get too down.
“The side that copes with a knock-back will be the side to get in the play-offs.
“Are we going to be the side that has a sulk and a moan and drag everybody down or are we going to be the side when there isn’t a great result to bounce back up?
“That’s what we’ve got to try and do. Sulking and feeling sorry for yourself is pointless as no one ever feels sorry for you.”
Their opponents on Saturday, Torquay, face the prospect of relegation from the National League as they are third from bottom.
Kinnear will be trying to pick his side up from the disappointment of conceding late on in their derby match 2-1 defeat to Ebbsfleet on Monday.
He said: “We have to use this as a learning experience.
“We haven’t gone in and pointed fingers and have a moan and a scream at them.
“They know they have to manage games at the end and that has cost us a few times. You can only learn that from experience and from these types of games.”
Dover rebuilt their squad during the summer after several players were released or left the club.
It has been a season of learning curves for the club.
Kinnear added: “If they don’t reflect on this then they won’t learn.
“They have learnt all the way through. We we first got them together it was mostly a team of players no one else wanted.
“We are possibly one of the youngest sides in the league. That’s the way it is and we have to be up and ready for it next Saturday.”
