A teenage goalkeeper has signed for Dover on loan from Premier League Bournemouth.
Billy Terrell links up with Mitch Brundle’s National League South squad ahead of their first league match of the new season against Torquay at Crabble next weekend.
He helps fill the void left by 41-year-old goalkeeper Stuart Nelson, who has departed this summer. He has joined Cirencester, where he started out.
Terrell, set to turn 20 at the end of next month, has previously had loan stints with Wimborne Town and Weymouth in National League South, and has agreed a season-long stint with Whites.
Indeed, in October 2020, Terrell made three spot-kick saves against Maidstone as Wimborne knocked them out to reach the final qualifying round of the FA Cup after a 2-2 draw.
On Twitter, he wrote: “[I’m] delighted to be here. Can’t wait to get started.”
He began his career at Portsmouth but joined hometown club Southampton at the age of 13 and then moved to the Vitality Stadium two years later.
Terrell comes from a footballing family. Dad Darren had been on the books of Southampton until he was 16.
Dover, due to host Isthmian South East Ashford in their final pre-season friendly this Saturday, beat promotion-chasing Southern Counties East Premier Division Deal Town 5-3 on Tuesday.
Young striker George Nikaj bagged a hat-trick.
