Ricky Modeste is backing Chris Kinnear to take Dover into the Football League.
Whites start their National League promotion bid with a trip to North Wales to play Wrexham on Saturday (3pm).
That’s followed by the visit of Boreham Wood to Crabble on Tuesday (7.45pm).
Whites reached the play-offs last season and, even though key men Nicky Deverdics and Stefan Payne have moved on, winger Modeste believes they are equipped to reach League 2.
Modeste said: "We’re definitely looking to push on and go one or two steps better.
"Anything’s possible. We’ve got to concentrate on getting results against teams in the bottom half.
"That’s where we slipped up last season. We seem to do well when we play teams in the top half but if you’re going to get promotion you need to beat the teams on paper you’re supposed to beat."
Modeste feels the reason for Whites’ success in the National League over the past two years is simple – the players believe in boss Kinnear’s methods.
The winger added: "We buy into the way the gaffer wants us to play.
"Teams think we’re quite direct, everyone knows how we play but they can’t stop us.
"If the way we play is so bad, these teams should be able to deal with it and get results.
"We’re not a side who are going to pop it around, we are direct and it works.
"It’s funny when your hear some of the negative comments and you’re thinking, ‘if it’s so bad, why are you not beating us?’
"There’s no right way or wrong way to win a football match – it’s whatever gets the job done."
Modeste scored the winner at Wrexham last season, silencing home supporters who had given him a tough time.
He said: "I got a bit of stick off their fans last season.
"There’s an assumption I dive and stuff like that but anyone who’s played the game knows that when you’re quick, if you take the slightest touch it’s almost impossible to stay on your feet.
"It’s the first game of the season, everyone’s buzzing and everyone should be fit. This is when it matters. The first 10-15 games will be a good indicator of where we are."
