Dover are on a high after Tuesday night’s 5-0 Vanarama Conference win against Nuneaton Town at Crabble.
So it seems only fitting that boss Chris Kinnear’s side – who are unbeaten in five league games – will take to the sky to make Saturday’s long trip to Gateshead by plane.
But Kinnear is determined to keep his players’ feet firmly on the ground ahead of the clash against the third-placed home side.
Kinnear, whose side are up to 15th, said: “Our results of late speak for themselves. There is no doubt that we are in a good place and everybody is enjoying it.
“Saying that, it’s so important that we must not let ourselves get carried away. We’ve got to enjoy the moment after each win and then move on.
“We can’t afford to do anything else – it will come back to bite you if you do in this league.”
As for making the trip to a ground 365 miles away from Crabble, Kinnear admits times have certainly changed since his playing days.
Kinnear, who started his playing career as an apprentice with West Ham United, said he wished he’d been able to travel by plane all those years ago.
He said: “We used to be stuck on a coach for hours on end before we finally arrived aching all over.
“Making a long trip by road to someone like Gateshead is not an option nowadays. We’ve got to make sure the players get there as quickly and as comfortable as possible. Going by plane will ensure that happens.”
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Andy Rafferty celebrated keeping his eighth consecutive clean sheet at Crabble on Tuesday by signing a new deal to stay at the club until the end of the 2015/16 season.
The former Hartlepool keeper had been on non-contract terms since arriving in September.
Kinnear said: “He’s done such an impressive job in the time he’s been here.
“It means we now have three decent goalkeepers on the books in him, Mitch (Walker) and Lee (Hook).
“It will be interesting to see how it pans out when Mitch is fit again.”
