Chris Kinnear wants no hangover when Vanarama National League new-boys North Ferriby United visit Crabble on Saturday.
Nobody can quite remember the last time Whites conceded four goals at home after Dover’s 4-1 home reverse against Boreham Wood on Tuesday night, while Ferriby conceded six at Lincoln in midweek.
Boss Kinnear said: “We have got to bounce back quickly. I am sure they will be wanting to as well but we mustn’t let a result like that against Boreham Wood to drag us down. Things like that happen.
“As I always say we never get too high when we win or too low when we lose but we will know all about them as (scout) Kevin Raine went to watch them on Tuesday.”
Kinnear’s first programme notes of the season reflected his belief that the competition will be much tougher this season with clubs “throwing even more money at it.”
He said: “It’s not about that here. We have got good ambitious lads, people will go off and chase money and that’s their prerogative.
“We and Braintree did well last season, without too much money but usually the top sides are the ones with the most – they have to win the league – and if they don’t, they haven’t done their jobs properly.
“We look after our players here, money doesn’t win you things, spirit does but it would make it a little bit easier.”
Latest signing Ross Lafayette is set to make his debut in place of the suspended Ricky Miller - sent off against Boreham Wood - and Kinnear admitted the former Eastleigh man has been a long-term target.
He said: “We have been talking about him and to him over the last few years and this was an opportunity to snap him up. He and Moses Emmanuel are two experienced players at this level and we need that.”
