Set on a 60-acre rural campus in the beautiful Kent countryside, Bethany School is a flourishing co-educational day and boarding School that provides a welcoming and caring environment for pupils between the ages of 11 and 18.
Bethany enjoys a reputation as a particularly friendly and happy community. It is a strong, thriving School with an enviable building programme, including recent and regular upgrading of boarding School facilities; a fantastic new six lane 25 metre indoor swimming pool, state-of-the-art fitness suite and a new sixth form centre with excellent facilities.
As a mainstream School, Bethany prides itself on nurturing academic excellence while catering for pupils with a broad range of abilities. The School offers a wide variety of subjects in modern classrooms with specialist facilities, including a Science Centre with modern laboratories.
The entire campus is served by a wireless network and all pupils have their own laptop. Much of the curriculum is delivered through ICT and pupils gain important digital skills. Almost all of our sixth formers progress on to university courses, leaving Bethany with a mature self-confidence and clear direction.
CReSTeD registered since 1994, Bethany’s Learning Support department enjoys an international reputation for its success in giving specialist help to dyslexic pupils within the mainstream curriculum. In addition, for those pupils who require it, we offer support for English as an Additional Language.
We offer boarding in full, weekly and flexi arrangements across five boarding houses, and our boarding community brings great diversity to Bethany. We are a small School and yet we have boarders coming from over 20 different countries, enriching our education with a variety of experiences and backgrounds.
We aim to inspire individual excellence in every pupil and this approach underlies everything we do at Bethany. Sixth form boarders benefit from single bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, all with easy access to kitchens and laundry rooms. This experience, combined with our Body for Life programme, is designed to be a stepping stone to life at university, all within the supportive environment of the School.
At Bethany, we believe that pursuits outside the classroom are very important in developing pupils’ personalities. Everyone takes part in sport at least three times a week, and chooses from a huge array of extra-curricular activities including horse riding, chef school, golf, fishing, clay pigeon shooting, archery, orchestra and country pursuits. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is hugely popular and very successful at Bethany.
The Headmaster firmly believes that School should be enjoyed rather than endured and it is the positive and nurturing atmosphere and the level of focus given to each individual pupil that helps makes Bethany ‘refreshingly different’.
