Trusted, innovative and bold. These are the core values of BAE Systems, one of the most exciting technology companies in the world.
BAE Systems’ Rochester site in Kent is home to more than 1,600 employees, and continues to recruit to support future growth. In fact, the company just announced a £220 million investment for an advanced technology factory at the Rochester facility.
For potential applicants who are unsure if they have the right experience, Logistics Technician Molly has shared her story.
Molly began studying interior design at college, but dropped out after realising it wasn’t for her. She worked full-time in retail, taking charge of sales and merchandising, before becoming a team leader. After six years, she decided that it was time for a change.
“I was aware of BAE Systems as a good local employer, but wasn’t sure I had the relevant skills,” said Molly. “My family encouraged me to apply for a technician role, and I’m glad I did. It turns out that my retail experience lends itself really well to what I do now. It’s my job to replenish the parts used to build items that go onto aircraft, ensuring that they remain available.”
Staff have access to flexible working, a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan, and a competitive pension scheme, as well as an employee assistance programme and employee discounts. They also benefit from an enhanced annual leave allowance.
“Having come from retail, I’m used to being on my feet all day – I like being up and about, with no more than a few hours each week sitting at a computer,” said Molly. “I also benefit from a regular shift pattern, so I can plan ahead. What’s more, this will be the first Christmas in several years that I get to take a break and spend the holidays with my family.”
“My advice to anyone considering a career at BAE Systems would be to know that you’ve picked up more skills than you might think you have. For example, I came to realise that I had valuable skills such as communication and customer service.”
"Finally, don’t worry about the things you don’t know – my trainer was really good at presenting information in a way I needed to help it sink in.”
There are roles available across a variety of disciplines and experience levels; from early careers through to seasoned professionals. With applications now open for the company’s 2025 intake of apprentices, undergraduates and graduates, there has never been a better time to explore career opportunities at BAE Systems.
