Whether you are looking to step into your chosen career or retrain in a new industry, a Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) can help you to gain the skills and knowledge employers need.
As part of the UK government’s higher technical education reforms to help people train or retrain for high-skilled, well-paid jobs, colleges across East Kent are rolling out Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs).
HTQs are Level 4 and 5 qualifications, such as Higher National Diplomas and Higher National Certificates, that have been developed in collaboration with employers and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. They have been created as a high-quality alternative to apprenticeships or degrees to give students the in-demand skills required by employers.
The Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ East Kent Colleges Group are offering a range of HTQs in the digital, construction, and health and science sectors to help you gain the skills and knowledge to progress into skilled employment or onto further study.
The HTQ courses currently offered by East Kent Colleges Group at their campuses in Ashford, Broadstairs, Canterbury, Dover, and Folkestone are taught by industry experts and students have access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.
If you are interested in working in the cutting-edge world of digital technology, EKC Broadstairs College provides a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Computing. Equivalent to the first year of a university course, this qualification equips students with the skills to progress into careers such as a technician or software developer. Students learn in high-tech facilities including specialist computer and gaming labs featuring VR headsets, 3D printers and robotics.
EKC Dover College is offering a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Digital Technologies designed to build digital expertise and prepare students for an exciting career in digital technology. The course is equivalent to the first two years of university and covers a broad spectrum of specialist functions in the digital sector to give you the skills required to work in a range of careers including cyber security, data analytics, animation and networking.
For those looking to kick-start a career in the construction industry, an HNC in Construction Management is available at EKC Folkestone College, delivered in a newly designed teaching space which hosts a range of industry-standard equipment and software.
The qualification, which is highly regarded by employers, develops analytical skills and knowledge in building construction, safety and sustainability allowing students to enter employment in roles such as a Construction Site Supervisor and Quantity Surveying Technician.
An HNC in Health at EKC Canterbury College would be a great choice for those interested in pursuing a job in health and social care. The course can aid progression onto a full degree programme and enhance your career prospects in the industry by developing your skills as a healthcare professional.
The full rollout of HTQs across a range of subjects is due to be complete in 2025, in line with the government’s higher technical education plans.
With small class sizes and competitive tuition fees, East Kent Colleges Group’s Higher Education offer is a great alternative to traditional university on your doorstep. The Group runs a wide range of higher education courses in a variety of subjects including Engineering, Visual Arts and Animal Science to help you to succeed in your chosen career.
