Pilgrims Hospice bike ride from Faversham to Bognor Regis

Two men have returned from an epic cycle ride from Faversham to Bognor Regis and all the way back.

Simon Ledger, 28, and Samuel Brealey, 27, completed the 250-mile trek in just 19 hours and 12 minutes, with a top speed of more than 40mph.

The coastal adventure, which they named FAV-BOG-FAV, has so far raised £700 for the Pilgrims Hospice, where Samuel’s grandmother Claire O’Connor spent her last few weeks in March.

Despite Simon’s chain breaking on the way there and the way back, Samuel, of St Mary’s Road, and Simon, of Blenheim Avenue, completed the ride with a beer at the new Freewheel cycling pub in Graveney on Sunday afternoon.

Samuel said: “We wanted to raise money for the Pilgrims Hospice because my mother’s mother recently received great care and treatment there in her last few weeks of life.

“All the staff and volunteers do a brilliant job of ensuring patients are comfortable, and that friends and relatives are supported and helped with the day to day care of their loved ones.

The duo endured carrying their bikes over beaches, cycling up huge hills and high winds.

From Faversham, their route took them to Brogdale, Charing, Pluckley, Bethersden, Woodchurch, Appledore, Rye, Hastings, Bexhill, Seaford, Newhaven, Brighton, Shoreham, Worthing and finally Bognor, before returning.
