ONE game, one community - that was the message at Saturday’s Let’s Kick Racism Out of Football event in Faversham, attended by over 500 people.

The spirit and the meaning will be etched into the memories of children from Islington and Swale who took part in the 2006 Challenge Trophy competition for years to come as Faversham Town Juniors played host to Positive Futures sides representing Arsenal and Charlton Athletic.

Sponsored by Kent Police, the Faversham event was part of the national anti-racism week that included similar schemes involving all 92 professional league clubs and thousands of community football clubs.

Police support community officers handed out anti-racism literature along with badges, patches and T-shirts to all the children on a day that started with 150 children taking part in coaching sessions.

Arsenal’s head coach Tony David said: "Our children from Islington gain a lot from this event and Faversham are great hosts."

His Charlton counterpart, Simon Hodge, said: "We really enjoyed it and what a great reception our children were given by Faversham."

Faversham Town’s Terry Cordice presented the players with their medals and trophies and added: "What a great event and well done to everyone involved."

Faversham Town Juniors Youth head coach, Ernie Brennan said: "The educational aspects of this event highlights that children from Faversham, Islington and Swale do not accept racism."
