A baby hedgehog injured by a strimmer has been given a new lease of life thanks, in part, to his pub landlord namesake.

Buster was brought to Mary Lane, of Spike’s hedgehog sanctuary, in Yorkletts, in May with a nasty cut.

And now, after hearing of the animal’s plight, Clive “Buster” McDonnell, of the Three Horseshoes in Hernhill, has stepped in to sponsor the cost of his care.

Mrs Lane said: “Angela Warne, who helps me, knows human Buster and mentioned hedgehog Buster to him. He’s agreed to sponsor him, and I’m over the moon, as what I do is self-funded.”

Buster and Buster came face to face on Tuesday when Mary took the hedgehog to the pub.

“When I heard about him, I thought I had to do it,” said Buster. “I’ve been called Buster since my mother was pregnant. I was a 10lb-er and it’s stuck, with my parents and everyone else.”

Once he is big enough, hedgehog Buster will be released into the wild.
