Faversham bathroom in flames after cigarette dropped

A bathroom was engulfed in flames after a cigarette was disposed of incorrectly.

Fire crews were called to Goldfinch in Faversham at 10.30pm on Friday.

Two fire engines attended and crews - wearing breathing apparatus - extinguished the flames in the bathroom using hose reel jets.

One person suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental and started by the improper disposal of a cigarette.

A fire service spokesman added: “Following the incident, firefighters are reminding people to ensure cigarettes, cigars and any other smoking materials are not left unattended and are fully stubbed out and cooled before being discarded.”
