A main route on the outskirts of a Kent town was sealed off by police following a crash this evening.

The A2 London Road in Ospringe, Faversham, was shut by police between the turnings for Western Link and Syndale Park just after 6.30pm.

Police have closed part of the A2 in Faversham

An eyewitness - who says the closure caused "major traffic around the town" - passed the scene where a police car was blocking the road at about 6pm.

There were reports of long delays in the area due to the incident, which also impacted Stagecoach bus services.

The company said: "Due to a crash and the road being closed by the police, we are unable to serve Teynham or Bapchild.

"Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause."

It is understood the road has reopened.

Police have been asked for further information.
