Chimney Boy to become the Limes after Albion bosses take over

Faversham’s Chimney Boy pub is set to be relaunched as The Limes.

As the current tenants announced they would be leaving next month, the landlords of the Albion Taverna will take the reins of the Preston Street pub.

Gareth Finney and Daniel Sidders, who also run four other pubs and bars in Canterbury, have announced they will convert the function room into a restaurant with 75-80 covers.

The Chimney Boy in Preston Street will become the Limes.

Before the pub was named the Chimney Boy, the building was once The Limes Hotel, so they have reverted back to its original title.

The current tenants will leave on May 18 and Gareth and Dan take over on May 22.

Specialising in gourmet burgers, they will also be serving brunches, traditional Sunday roast dinners and steaks, alongside a cocktail list and traditional ales.

Leaving the Mexican cuisine at the Albion, Gareth says there will “not be a nacho or jalapeno in sight” at The Limes.

Gareth Finney and Daniel Sidders, who also own the Albion and a number of pubs in Canterbury, will be taking over the Chimney Boy.

He said: “We have always wanted to take on a traditional pub so when this opportunity arose, we were thrilled.

“We want to serve purely British food with a modern twist, but we will keep the traditional pub style. We plan to have music evenings and will keep the Faversham Folk Club events running.

“We officially open on May 22.”

The Chimney Boy in Preston Street will be renamed the Limes.

Shepherd Neame’s director of retail Nigel Bunting said: “We are delighted that the successful team behind the Albion Taverna will be taking over the Chimney Boy.

“Gareth and Dan will be bringing their vast experience and impeccable standards to the pub. We’ve agreed to bring back the pub’s previous name, The Limes.

“We believe this will spark people’s interest and inspire them to investigate what the pub has to offer when it relaunches in a month’s time.”

In the last year, the Chimney Boy has gone through a number of changes.

The American diner-style pop up restaurant Burger Brothers opened inside in September last year but had closed its doors before the end of the year.

In January, Jittermugs cafe owner Nick Green took over the restaurant space and opened Prestons, but after the tenants left last week, he has closed.

Mr Green told the Faversham News he hopes to find premises to open another restaurant.
