The battle against Costa coffee moving into Faversham is NOT over.
Independent coffee shops were celebrating back in September when they withdrew a planning application to open up in Market Street.
But a spokesman for Costa has today (Wednesday) confirmed to the Faversham News that a new planning application will be submitted in the next few weeks.
Ben Copithorne said: "Costa wants to open a new store in Faversham in the town centre.
"We don't currently have a planning application in but we are working on one which we would like to submit to Swale Borough Council.
"A planning application had been submitted earlier this year but was withdrawn."
Costa sparked fury back in May when the café announced it would be opening a store in the heart of the town.
The application received hundreds of letters of objection as residents battled to keep the big brands out of the town.
Independent retailers in the town centre began to worry that the arrival of a Costa would push them out of the town.
Faversham has a vast array of coffee shops including Jittermugs, Havishams, Saddlers, Creek Creative, The Swan, Moonlight Café, Annette’s Baguettes, Java House and Cosgroves.
Saddlers owner Kirsty Northwood said at the time that “corporate companies have no interest in Faversham other than to hoover up as much cash as possible” and Jittermugs owner Nick Green said a chain “would suck the life out of independent businesses.”
