DRIVERS ignoring traffic bans in Faversham could face a £30 ticket, police are warning.

The town's two beat officers, PCs Alan Godden and Mark Savage, have enlisted the help of council parking wardens to join them for a day-long crackdown on motorists.

They will be in the town on Thursday, January 17, issuing fixed penalty tickets to any unauthorised motorists driving through the town centre.

Between 6am and 6.30pm no vehicles are allowed in Market Place, Court Street, Preston Street and East Street, unless they have Swale council permits, they are disabled badge holders or they are loading or unloading a lorry.

Vehicular access is allowed between 6.30pm and 6am but parking in these roads is banned 24 hours day.

PC Savage said: "These regulations are being flouted regularly and we have received numerous complaints from residents, traders and the town council. This is the first crackdown we will have held, but we will repeat it if the problem doesn't go away."

PC Godden said drivers using the road illegally were causing serious problems: "They cause an obstruction but the real danger is that people are crossing the road believing they are safe because it is a pedestrianised area, yet cars are still using the road."
