A suspected drugs den that was a magnet for crime and blighted the lives of neighbours has been boarded up by police.

Visitors to the flat in St Nicholas Road, Faversham, have been banned following repeated issues with antisocial behaviour.

Since October last year, residents have regularly reported suspected drug dealing, fights and harassment taking place at the address.

Despite their calls - and an arrest being made - it continued to attract unruly behaviour, resulting in police applying for a closure order banning anyone from going to or living in the flat.

Insp Joel Mitchell said: "Repeated efforts were made to engage with those at the property yet the behaviour continued.

"Removing people from their home is not a step that is taken lightly, however in this instance residents were having to live with constant disruption and it could not be allowed to continue."

The order, granted by Margate magistrates last Friday, will remain in place for three months.

The only people exempt from the ban on visitors are the landlord and authorised contractors.

Failure to comply with the order risks arrest, imprisonment and an unlimited fine.

Insp Mitchell added: "I am confident the community will benefit from this order and I would encourage anyone affected by similar issues to report them to us via our website or by calling 101."
