Five held after 'vicious' assault at hop festival

KENT Police have arrested five men on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm after a man was seriously assaulted at a hop festival in the county.

The victim was assaulted behind Brents Tavern in Faversham with a weapon which police believe could have been a metal bar.

PC Carli Davis said: "This was a particularly vicious attack which caused the victim deep lacerations to the back and front of his head and severe bruising to his jaw and arms."

The victim was treated at Ashford's William Harvey Hospital and is now recovering at home. Two other men also suffered head injuries during the incident.

PC Davis added: "I want to appeal for anyone that may have been at the festival that evening and witnessed the incident to come forward and give us any information that may help us bring the offenders to justice."

All five men arrested have been bailed pending further police enquiries to return to Sittingbourne Police station on October 18.

The assault happened sometime between 8.30pm and 9.05pm on Sunday, September 2.
