Controversial rocker and activist Bob Geldof offered to fund a free coach for protesters to attend the People’s Vote march but it was cancelled due to lack of interest.
The Boomtown Rats frontman and ardent Remainer was one of several celebrities prepared to help those wanting to travel to the capital this Saturday to have their say.
Demonstrators are appealing to the government for another vote on the final Brexit deal before the UK leaves the European Union next March.
The singer’s offer was advertised by Lisa Valder on the Facebook group Faversham Matters.
She wrote: “Free travel on a sponsored coach from Faversham to the People’s Vote March in London on the 20th October!
“Provided we can get 50 people who are interested, Bob Geldof has agreed to sponsor a 50-seater coach. Departure would be around 9.30 from Faversham, return time will be determined by agreement of passengers travelling. Please let me know ASAP if you are on board.”
Geldof is a vehement critic of Brexit and previously clashed with fishermen after protesting on the River Thames.
Campaigners will gather at Park Lane in London from noon.
The meeting point is north of the Hilton Hotel. The crowds will march to Parliament Square where there will be a rally as soon as the majority have arrived from about 2pm.
Celebrity chef Delia Smith will be leading the march alongside Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden.
There will be cross-party support from the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, Labour MP Chuka Umunna, Tory MPs Sarah Wollaston and Anna Soubry, Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable and Green Party MP Caroline Lucas.
Mr Geldof spoke at the last London rally held in June and received a mixed response.
Other celebrities who have helped to sponsor coaches are In Thick of it Writer Armando Iannucci, former Liverpool footballer Jamie Carragher and thespian Sir Patrick Stewart.
The march is expected to attract more than 100,000 people.
