A HEAD teacher has written to parents after a schoolgirl’s mobile phone was used to film one boy assaulting another.

In what is believed to be the first case of happy slapping at Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School, Faversham, witnesses said the victim, aged 14, was left with bleeding gums after he was punched.

The boy was taken to the school’s medical room but did not need to see a doctor. Head teacher Jane Percy wrote to parents warning that staff will confiscate mobile phones if there are any similar incidents.

In the letter, she said: “A very serious incident occurred yesterday during breaktime when one of our students used her mobile phone to video one boy physically assaulting another.

“I am sure that you will all agree with me that this type of extreme bullying and provocation cannot be tolerated and is certainly the first incident of happy slapping that we have encountered here at QE.”

Mrs Percy goes on to say that mobile phones will be confiscated, parents will be asked to collect them from school and the pupil will not be able to have a phone in school if anything similar happens again.

“I am sorry to have to impose such a measure but I trust that I can count on all parents’ support in this matter, which is such an alien one to us at QE.”
