A supermarket chain has confirmed it will close one of its Kent stores later this year.

Iceland is pulling out of Faversham town centre with the loss of 13 jobs.

The company today confirmed the store will close when the lease expires in September, but will be consulting with employees about moving them to other stores in the county.

Staff were told about the closure plans for the outlet in East Street last night with the final day confirmed as September 14.

A spokesman said the closure of the shop is a one-off adding there "no plans for any other Iceland store closures in Kent".

In a statement, the supermarket chain said: "We intend to close the Iceland store in Faversham on 14 September 2019, due to the expiry of our lease.

"Our 13 colleagues at the store were informed of our intention to close the store last night and we will now begin a consultation process with them that will include advising them of opportunities at other Iceland stores in the area.

"There are no plans for any other Iceland store closures in Kent."

In other retail news, mountaineering outlet Trespass revealed it will be moving to Canterbury.
