Faversham: KGN News break-in

A man is in police custody following a break-in at a busy newsagents during the early hours of this morning.

KGN News in Preston Street, Faversham, has been cordoned off by police since around 3am and officers are still at the scene.

A 34-year-old man from Faversham has now been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently in police custody.

The newsagents has been cordoned off this morning after a break-in.

Owner Vishal Joshi hoped to open as usual at around 6am today but the store has been closed until at least this afternoon.

Mr Joshi said: "It doesn't really matter about the damage because we can claim on the insurance, but it is the huge amount of trade we have already lost this morning.

"We usually open at 6am so it has already been a couple of hours.

"We do not know as yet what has been taken as we have to wait for forensics to get here.

"Even once they arrive, it could still be another couple of hours as they carry out their work.

"We just hope we can open this afternoon and apologies to all our customers for the inconvenience."

The newsagents has been cordoned off this morning after a break-in.

A police spokesman said: "At 3.35am on June 20, officers noticed a property that appeared insecure in Preston Street in Faversham.

"The scene was secured and later in the morning a 34 year-old man from Faversham was arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently in police custody.

"Officers remain at the scene."
