Police and forensics officers in Nightingale Road, Faversham, after incident in Athelstan Road

Two people have been arrested and a major investigation launched after a man suffered serious head injuries.

Police and forensic teams were called at 2.56am and there have been officers and detectives in Athelstan Road, Faversham since the early hours.

Police confirmed they were carrying out inquiries and the forensics officers were seen swabbing a wheelie bin in the street.

Paramedics also attended the scene after reports a man in his 50s sustained a head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment.

An investigation is ongoing after reports of an altercation in the area shortly before police were called.

A 31-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident.

They remain in custody being questioned while inquiries continue.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in Athlestan Road, School Road, King's Road or Nightingale Road, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage from those areas between 2.40am and 2.55am, is urged to contact police.
