A primary school is set to expand after plans to open a new pre-school in September were announced.

Bysing Wood Primary School has been earmarked to open to children aged from two-years-old and open the school-run nursery on the Lower Road site.

A consultation on the proposals to expand the Faversham school's age range from 4-11-year-olds is being run by Kent County Council (KCC).

Parents and residents have until Monday to submit comments on the plans, which could come into effect in the new school year on September 1.

Education bosses say the expansion will provide vital early years places in Faversham and ease pressure after the Rainbow Pre-School closed suddenly in December.

The privately run pre-school previously used buildings at the school and KCC has now decided to utilise the extra space at Bysing Wood.

KCC said it had highlighted a shortfall of 20 pre-school sessions should the Rainbow Pre-School not be replaced.

A report is due to be presented to education committee members at KCC this month with Cllr Roger Gough, the cabinet member for children, young people and education, deciding whether to accept the proposals.

If the plans are given the go-ahead, a second consultation on the formal plans will be put forward before a final decision is taken to permanently make the changes.

View the full plans and for a comments form on the consultation page and return to the school office or send to Marisa White, Area Education Officer, Brook House, Reeves Way, Whitstable, CT5 3SS or by email to school.consultations@kent.gov.uk
