The Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School has received its first ever outstanding Ofsted report.

The faultless results of a meticulous inspection earlier this year outline the Faversham school as an “exceptionally harmonious community”, with a head teacher and governors who have a “clear and uncompromising vision for the school”.

Ofsted examiners found that the QEGS’s quality of leadership, quality of teaching, pupils’ academic achievement and their behaviour and safety were all outstanding.

Ofsted officers visited the school on March 24 and 25, sitting in on lessons, speaking to pupils and teachers and asking parents for feedback.

In the report, published this week, it says: “Leaders at all levels are determined that all students will progress exceptionally well and the school continues to improve. They know each student extremely well.

"The high expectations and excellent subject knowledge of staff underpin the outstanding teaching and the head teacher receives strong support from ambitious, dedicated and loyal staff." - Ofsted report.

“The school has sustained high levels of attainment. Pupils excel in their personal development and academic study and all achieve very well.

“Pupils’ behaviour is exemplary and they are happy and feel very safe in the school. Their excellent attitudes to learning contribute strongly to their success.

“The sixth form is outstanding. Students achieve highly and talk with passion about the opportunities to develop their wider skills.”

Head teacher David Anderson expressed his delight at the results and says working at the QEGS continues to be “such a pleasure”.

He moved to the school from Cranbrook Grammar in 2008, when QEGS was rated by Ofsted as good.

He said: “We are absolutely delighted. We have felt for some time that we are an outstanding school but it is lovely to have that formally recognised by Ofsted.

“We have focused on creating a calm, happy, supportive and purposeful environment where pupils feel well cared for.

“We believe in creating excellent conditions for success, that every pupil can perform at their best and are encouraged along the way by caring and supportive professionals.

“We are so pleased that this has been recognised in this report.

“My thanks go to the outstanding staff and governors whose work, commitment and support for the school has been exceptional.

“Their hard work and dedication to the school is second to none. I am so proud of everyone.”

Deputy head boy Stanley Bidston-Casey, who is currently doing his AS levels at the school and attained A*s and As in his GCSEs said: “I can definitely see why the school was given this grading.

“So many of the pupils do well academically but it’s about the atmosphere as well. It’s such a friendly environment and everyone knows everyone. We couldn’t ask for better teachers either.”
