A flood alert issued along the coast due to high tide has been lifted.

The Environment Agency warned people to be prepared for a possible tidal surge this morning (Monday).

Areas at risk of coastal flooding included the Isle of Sheppey and the north Kent coast from Kemsley to Seasalter, including Sheerness, Minster, Queenborough, Leysdown, Sittingbourne and Faversham.

A spokesman said: "We are currently in a period of high astronomical tides with a small positive surge forecast for the early morning. This is expected to result in a water level that just requires this alert.

"The main concern is for Faversham, where it is anticipated that there will be flooding of low-lying land alongside Faversham Creek. No property flooding is expected.

"Please be prepared for tides to be higher than usual during this period. We will continue to monitor the situation and reissue this alert for subsequent tides if required."
