Traffic is now on the move after being held on the M2 following a crash between Faversham and Sittingbourne.

Drivers were stuck in lengthy queues on the London-bound carriageway, with police and fire crews at the scene.

The incident happened between Junction 6 and Junction 5 as heavy rain swept across Kent.

One motorist caught in the tailback said: "It looked like three cars were on the side of the road. A fire engine and ambulance were there.

"It was along an exposed part of the motorway allowing strong winds to blow across the road. There were branches from trees strewn on the carriageway."

She added: "Many motorists seemed to be driving too fast and too near the vehicles in front for the weather conditions."

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "This was a two-vehicle crash on the London-bound carriageway of the M2 between junctions 6 and 5. The first call to us came in at 5.17pm.

"There were no casualties trapped requiring action from our crews although firefighters did assist with making the scene safe."

Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service were also at the scene. KFRS left the scene at around 5.44pm.
