The legendary Willie Thorne will host a snooker event in Faversham.

Once ranked number seven in the world, the talented player and now sports commentator will be at the Faversham Club for a charity night next month.

The 62-year-old, who is now often heard on the BBC and Sky Sports and won dozens of competitions in his youth, will play alongside other notable players Mark Davis, Jimmy Robertson and Michael Georgiou on Friday, August 19.

The event is the brainchild of charitable Colin Philips, who last year raised £1,586 for the Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity when he invited snooker pros Joe Perry and Gerard Greene for a similar event last August.

This year all the money will go towards St Michael’s Hospice in East Sussex and Parkinsons UK.

Colin said: “We can’t wait for this year’s event and hope to raise even more money than last year.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to Willie Thorne for agreeing to come down and everyone who is sponsoring the event who without them, this could not be a reality.

“Shepherd Neame, Abbey Print, Roy Campbell, KGN News, the Coffee Station, Faversham Creek Navigation Company, the Faversham Club and Saddler’s Restaurant are all to thank.

“I would love to have a sell-out event and make as much money as possible for the charities on the night.”

The main sponsors of the event are David and Tracy Selves from the Red Sails Restaurant.
