FEARS that policing the carnival will cost Faversham Carnival Club thousands of pounds have forced organisers to cut back the route and miss out South Road altogether.

But Sylvia Lawrence said she was delighted that the carnival is to go ahead at all after Kent Police introduced charging for policing the event on Saturday October 11.

And she thanked Kent County Councillor Tom Gates for promising to help gain a county council grant.
