A woman died in a three-car crash on one of the county's main roads on Monday.

The 76-year-old local woman, who has not yet been named by police, was driving a blue Chevrolet Matiz when the accident happened at the junction between London Road and the Newnham road, Faversham at around 10.20am.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the collision, which also involved a silver Ford Mondeo and a silver Ford Focus.

Ambulance crews pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The driver of the Mondeo, a 73-year-old man, was treated at the scene for shock and minor injuries and was taken to hospital as a precaution.

The driver and passenger in the Ford Focus received no injuries but were treated at the scene for shock.

London Road was shut in both directions to enable police officers to investigate the collision. Diversions are in place along Four Oaks Road and the Lower Road in Teynham and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.
