AN E-FIT has been released of a man detectives want to question in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old girl from Faversham.
They have described the crime as “incredibly serious” and have asked anyone who might have been in the area at the time to wrack their minds.
The schoolgirl was walking home from a party when the man, whom she did not know, approached her from the West Street area, forced her into a car park area in Tanners Street and raped her.
The incident, which took place between 11.30pm on Saturday, May 1, and 1am on Sunday, May 2, was reported to police soon afterwards.
The area was sealed off as soon as she identified the area and forensic experts were drafted in. Officers have also carried out house-to-house enquiries.
The man was white, of medium build, and had short brown hair, and was aged between 25 and 35. On the night of the attack he was wearing a short-sleeved white shirt with a small blue pattern on the front and blue jeans.
Det Sgt Gary Scarfe said: “I would ask those who may have been in the Tanners Street area at around the time of the incident to cast their minds back and try to remember if they noticed anyone acting suspiciously.
“The girl involved is obviously traumatised by her ordeal and it is paramount that anyone who may have information that will help us with this enquiry comes forward as soon as possible. I am keen to point out that incidents of this nature and extremely rare in the Faversham area.”
