AN ANCIENT holy site in Kent is being used for pornographic magazine shoots, it has been revealed.
Drivers passing the Stone Chapel on the A2 at Ospringe, near Faversham, gasped as they saw a naked woman draped over the ruins.
She was striking poses while surrounded by photographers furiously taking pictures and directing the action, according to one witness who contacted the Faversham News after driving past the site with his son.
The revelations have provoked disgust in the town. Town Mayor Cindy Davis said: "As a Christian, I think this is a defilement of a religious site.
"You can see the chapel from the A2 and certainly if the police spot anyone doing this down there they should do something about it."
It is the second time in as many months that the chapel has been used for candid shoots.
But there have been other instances of it being used for pornography in previous years.
English Heritage owns the site, but it is managed by the Faversham Society.
Arthur Percival, the honorary director of the Faversham Society, said: "If it is being used for pornography, then we must hope it won't happen again. Unfortunately, it's not the kind of place you can invigilate and it is a pity if this is happening."
The land around the chapel is owned by farmer John Clinch. Some time ago, his sister Melanie Elvy came across a naked woman being photographed.
She said: "There were two photographers and one woman. We went over there and asked her if she was all right. We were concerned for her, and then they went off pretty soon.
"It is out of order using an ancient holy site for this purpose. It's not very nice."
Swale Police didn't receive any formal complaints about the naked photo shoot.
Officers have been called out to the spot in the past only to find the culprits making a hasty getaway.
Apart from pornographers, drug addicts and occultists have been known to meet at the chapel site.
