The former Monty Python cameraman who was arrested in his dressing gown for allegedly sending out satirical posters to politicians has received his own mystery delivery.
When John Wellard, 71, opened his front door yesterday afternoon, he found a cake with a file through it - an old-age joke relating to breaking out of prison, which featured on sitcom Porridge.
Earlier this week, six police officers were sent to arrest Mr Wellard for allegedly sending satirical posters and brown envelopes containing foreign currency to some Swale and Faversham councillors.
The latest hand-delivered package - a brown envelope - simply said "John" on the front and contained a well-crafted cake with a metal file through the middle.
Mr Wellard thinks it is "incredibly funny".
He said: "Whether it's benign, or whether it's mischievous, I'm going to say thank you very much anyway.
"It's an old-age joke and I find it incredibly funny. I'm looking forward to sharing it with my partner.
"I'm now the butt of some satirical humour and I really don't mind. I won't be calling the police, that's for sure.
"Whoever sent this, I thank them very, very much."
