Motorists are being warned of up to three months of traffic delays as work gets underway on a £1.4million scheme to improve street lights on the M2 at Faversham.
The work, which will include overnight closures of Brenley Corner roundabout, is being carried out by the Highways Agency to upgrade street lighting along the M2 between junctions seven and six.
The roadworks will be carried out 24 hours a day with lane closures overnight and daytime hard shoulder closures.
The M2 will be completely closed while workmen move lighting columns from the central reservation.
Coastbound traffic will be diverted from the M2 at junction six onto the A251 Ashford Road and then onto the A2 Canterbury Road to rejoin the M2 at junction seven, Brenley Corner. When the closures affect London-bound traffic, the same diversion route in reverse will be in place.
There will be various overnight closures of the entry and exit slip roads on both the London-bound and coastbound carriageways of the M2 at junction seven as well as on the M2 and Brenley roundabout.
There will also be a 50mph speed limit in place.
Detail of the dates of the overnight diversions will be confirmed nearer the time. The first diversion, which is on the coastbound route, is currently planned for March 23-24.
