A slip road leading off the M2 had to be closed after a water main burst.
The motorway's London-bound exit at Junction 6 for the A251 Ashford Road, near Faversham , was shut while emergency work was carried out by South East Water
Traffic was moving slowly in the area and anyone who needed Junction 6 was forced to take a long drive to Junction 5 for Sittingbourne, Sheppey and Maidstone.
Earlier, South East Water’s distribution manager Mark Rice, apologised for the problems.
He said: “We are sorry to customers in the Sheldwich and Faversham area who currently have no water or low pressure due to a burst on a four inch diameter water main.
“To repair the pipe and the damage to the road safely, we have had to close the M2 London-bound slip road at Junction 6, A251 towards Ashford and Faversham."
he advised motorists who needed Junction 6 to leave at Junction 7 and follow a signposted route to rejoin the A251 from Canterbury Road.
“We are working as quickly as we can to repair the damaged water main and get the slip road open as soon as we can,” he added.
