A missing woman was found standing on the hard shoulder of a motorway.

The police helicopter and officers were scouring the Swale area at around 7pm last night after concerns for a woman's welfare.

A search was carried out and the woman was found standing on the M2 near junction six for Faversham.

Traffic was stopped in both directions until the woman was brought to safety.

She was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act.
