Punny residents asked to name a council’s new refuse vehicles have made the shortlist with monikers such as Bruce Spring Clean and Meryl Sweep.
Swale Borough Council asked people to send 4in ideas on what 22 waste collection and street sweepers should be called.
After scores of submissions, the local authority narrowed the list to 41, the bulk of propositions humorously mashing the names of celebrities with rubbish-themed wordplay.
Representing musical ideas are Dustbin Bieber, Bruce Spring Clean, Bin Jovi and Dusty Springfield have made the cut.
Silverscreen nominations include Meryl Sweep and Kate Binslet as well as fiction characters such as Bindiana Jones and Wheelie Wonka.
Sports personalities are in the mix with Gary Binekar, Marcus Trashford and Lionel Messy, while Bincent Van Gogh represents the visual arts.
Cllr Rich Lehmann, who chairs the council’s environment committee said ‘Binny McBinface’ had been a frequent submission also, but this idea had been scrapped.
“We want to thank the people of Swale for their inventive, punny and thoughtful suggestions and I look forward to seeing which names get your vote,” said Cllr Lehmann.
“These vehicles form part of our new waste contract and will help us collect your waste efficiently and make sure we have the capacity to collect food waste from every household in the borough.
“While this was a fun exercise, the key message that we need to take away is the importance of recycling and disposing of your food waste correctly.”
The fleet is currently being built as part of the new waste and street cleansing contract with SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK Ltd and will be operating from March next year.
The council has confirmed it will continue to collect general waste and recycling on alternate weeks, and collecting food waste separately every week.
Online voting will be open at: https://forms.office.com/e/PqCfyHe8e6 until January 5 for people to chose their ten favourite names for the waste vehicles, and three favourite names for the street cleansing vehicles.
