The parents of a terminally ill baby were left devastated after a vandal slashed the tyres of their family car.

The vehicle belonging to Jasmine Legg and Anthony Fryer was attacked at night while parked outside their home in Charles Drayson Court, Faversham.

The car is a vital lifeline for the couple who frequently have to take their baby son Thomas to hospital.

He was born last year with lissencephaly, a life-limiting brain condition which doctors say means he is unlikely to ever walk, talk or feed properly and may not live past the age of two.

The vandalism came as a devastating blow to the couple who have two other children and are struggling to make ends meet, especially at Christmas.

Three of the Vauxhall Corsa's tyres were slashed at the weekend, leaving the family with a bill for £325 which they could not afford.

But their faith in human nature has been restored after Jasmine revealed the damage on the Faversham Matters Facebook page.

Hearing of their plight, well-wisher Laura Coniam set up a GoFundMe page to help the family, describing the vandalism to their car as "cruel".

And in just 24 hours it raised £345 from 15 supporters, which has paid for a mobile fitter to come to their home to replace the damaged tyres.

Speaking about the vandalism, Jasmine, 29, said: "We just couldn't believe it, especially on top of everything else we are having to deal with.

"Having a car is so important to us because we often need to take Thomas to hospital, especially when an ambulance isn't available.

"It's the lowest of the low thing to do and made us feel quite numb. We just can't understand it because we are not aware we have any enemies."

Jasmine says the family now wants to thank everyone who donated and took the financial burden away from them.

"It just shows there are some really lovely people out there, " she added.

In May, dozens of well-wishers also sent baby Thomas a first birthday card after Jasmine revealed his plight.

"We don’t know how many birthdays we’ll have with him, so with it being his first one, I just wanted to make it as special as possible," she said.

"We hope we’ll have more, but you never know."
