A PENSIONER suffered serious head injuries, believed life threatening, during an accident in East Street, Faversham.

The 82-year-old was crossing the road in his carpet slippers near Dan House when a blue Citroen collided with him , knocking him unconscious.

He was taken by ambulance to the Kent and Canterbury Hospital where he is on a ventilator in intensive care.

His condition is described as very serious. The man had no identification on him when he was found. His family contacted police some time after becoming concerned that he had not returned.

Sgt Pete Crawley, of Swale Police, said: "There doesn't seem to be anyone else involved. It would appear that he was crossing the road when he was hit by the car."

"The ambulance crew thought they were life threatening injuries. They appeared to be head injuries and there was a lot of blood."

He added the woman driver of the Citroen had been breath-tested and was not over the limit.
