Police were left baffled after a 4x4 veered off the road but the driver could not be found.
A helicopter and police dog were called last night after officers were unable to find the Land Rover Discovery driver following the crash on the A2 in Dunkirk.
The vehicle, which ended up in undergrowth, came off the coast-bound carriageway at about 11.30pm on Saturday.
A police spokesman said: “Despite extensive searches the driver was not found.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.”
