KENT police today seized hundreds of plants, thought to be cannabis, after executing two drugs warrants at properties in Faversham and Querenborough.

At 7am Mid-Kent Officers searched a cottage and land in Otterden, near Faversham. They found what they believe to be around 400 cannabis plants being cultivated. Further enquiries revealed a large quantity of, what officers think, is herbal cannabis. It is estimated that the drugs seized have a street value of around £50, 000.

A property in Chalk Road, Queenborough was also search by police. Heat lamps and some plants (suspected to be cannabis) were seized and two people were arrested.

DS Gary Scarfe who led today’s action said: “Today’s operation has been successful, not only have we taken thousands of pounds worth of drugs out of circulation we have also made a number of arrests.

“We have been working on this operation for a number of weeks and it was the result of intelligence led policing. We used a plane to take photographs from the air that showed what we believe to be cannabis growing in a field by the cottage in Otterden.

“I am confident that our action will make a positive difference in the local area, especially on the Isle of Sheppey, where some of the cannabis may have been sold.

“We will act on any information that will help us rid the streets of drugs and arrest those who are concerned in the supply of illegal substances. Our aim is to make the Mid Kent Area an even safer place to work, live or visit and I believe that by continuing to target the supply and cultivation of drugs, we can do just that.”

Two men aged 29 and 31-years-old and one woman aged 34-years old were arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis. They were arrested from the Otterden property and are currently in police custody.

A 35-year-old woman and 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis. They were arrested from the Queenborough property and are currently in police custody.
