A hugely popular heated pool is now open year-round for outdoor swimming.
Faversham Pools' heated lido was formerly in use for just four months during the summer, before closing in early September.
But the popularity of open-air swimming prompted new manager Jon Lazenby to trial opening for ‘sunset swims’ throughout the colder months.
With support from Faversham Town Council, the trial lasted through autumn 2021 until the end of December and saw almost 2,000 swimmers brave the cooler temperatures to take a dip.
Following the pilot’s success the pool - which is heated to approximately 19 degrees - will now open throughout the year for swims at dusk.
Mr Lazenby said: “We’re known across Kent and further afield for our glorious outdoor facilities, and we want the community to be able to enjoy them beyond the traditional summer months.
“Faversham offers safe facilities in the fresh air, and we can guarantee warm showers and a cup of tea after your swim!”
Swimmers have praised the new winter sessions.
Ruth, from Whitstable, said: “As the dark nights arrive, as a woman it limits the choices to exercise in the evening and this is a safe option.”
Jenny from Faversham added: “This has been an amazing way for me to fit in outdoor swimming around my children, and help fight off any winter blues. I feel so safe swimming here.”
The pool will be open for adult lane swimming from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday evenings and from 4pm to 8pm on Thursday evenings for the rest of the winter.
From April 1 onwards, these opening hours will be extended to include more evenings, along with weekend and family sessions.
Booking is currently essential.
Swimmers can book slots online up to seven days in advance via Faversham Pools' website.
