Probe after £4,500 church theft

LAWN mowers worth more than £4,500 were stolen from a Kent church over the weekend.

The theft took place at St Mary's Church in Church Road, Faversham, overnight between Friday and Saturday.

The most valuable item taken was a "ride-on" lawn mower worth £4,000. Two petrol lawn mowers worth a combined £530 were also stolen.

Colin Pengelly, the church warden, said: "The people responsible of this have not only stolen from the church, they have denied the community a well kept peaceful area that they can enjoy."
